About Zigzag English
The Zigzag English books are written by Lydia Winter. I’m a qualified and experienced teacher, based in the UK.
- I teach English to both children and adults.
- Some of my child students started as complete beginners – with only 1 or 2 words of English, and without knowing the alphabet. We talk a lot, using questions and answers and repetition. And we read a dialogue or a chapter from my books every lesson. They make amazingly quick progress. The teaching method I developed for my first Asian students who were complete beginners is the one I use in my Zigzag English and I Speak English Too! books. When I use the books with European children, they make even faster progress.
- I also teach general and business English to adults. You can find some of the dialogues and warm-up activities I use in my lessons in my Everyday English and Business English dialogue books, and in my Activity Books for elementary, lower intermediate and intermediate learners.
- I’ve just published a series of grammar books for beginner to intermediate level learners. This is your chance to learn essential English grammar using grammar-focused dialogues (don’t worry – there are explanations and exercises too, plus a test at the end of the book). I love writing dialogues, and grammar-focused dialogues are especially fun to write.

I’m a linguist myself – I studied languages at the University of Oxford and have lived abroad in Europe and Asia. I also have a daughter who’s learning several languages. So I’m familiar with all sides of the language learning process.
I worked as a lawyer for many years, which I found very helpful when I was writing my Business English Dialogues.
